Completed Papercraft Iron man

Finally after an estimated 7 weeks of slow work, Iron man is finished. He stands just under 12 inches (about 1:6 scale) and is made from 13 sheets of paper. He has about 8 points of limited articulation in his shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. I modified the hips to give a little bit more poseability. He also has 2 sets of hands: fists and open palms, which can be switched out. Lastly, I included my own touch with two small LED lights inside his chest and head. This was my first time working with electrical circuits and it was not exactly as simple as I thought it would be but I got it to work in the end. This is probably one of the coolest things I have ever created, though half of the credit goes to Paper Replika designer Julius Perdana who created the template that I printed out. It was a complex process to position everything correctly to fit inside Iron man and I  was finally able to solder the two LEDs to the switch and battery holder. It only runs on one small coin cell battery which was very convenient. I will definitely be using more LEDs in the future!

Papercraft iron man progress

RI am slowly progressing with papercraft Iron man and now have part 1 and 2 done. He has movable arm joints and soon the legs too. Having to spray paint him makes it take longer but it definitely pays off for the color. More pictures soon of him when he is finished!

Papercraft Iron man

I have started working on a papercraft iron man action figure designed by Julius Perdana at
paper-replika.com , who is an amazing papercraft designer and you should check out his site. I downloaded the blank template for Iron man mark 7 and printed it out on red paper. So far I have completed part one, which I also spray painted a better red color, and I am very plaesed with the way it is turning out. I don't have a lot of experience with papercraft so I'm surprised at how good it looks. Just a lot of cutting folding and gluing really. the hardest part to do is design the template but that has already been done for me, so thanks again Julius Perdana! I will continue to work on it and post my progress.

miniature man of steel

Here is the latest foam miniature character we have made, Superman from the upcoming movie Man of Steel. So not exactly the classic Superman with red underwear, but he is pretty cool. I took some pictures of him and did a little photoshop editing for one, I think he's one of our best figures yet!

Miniature thor and loki

Just some more photos I took of my custom thor and Loki miniature figures. I like to photograph them in real environments and try to make it look like they are in a real location. The backgrounds here aren't great but oh well. I do like the one of Loki with the sky background. It was very windy that day so it was hard to get them to stay standing.

Marvel puppets: captain america, ironman, & daredevil

Wow, it has been a long time since I have updated this blog, I still have so many more things to show. for this post I have some more recent creations that me and my brother made for christmas. These marvel customs we have created are made with a very different technique. They are much bigger than our normal figure size and are 9 inches, roughly a 1/8 scale. They are experimental stop motion puppets and are made of wire armatures covered with soft urethane foam and fabric. I wanted to see if I could make these figures a little more realistic and life like, with finer details and shape. I am pleased with the first attempts at this and I hope to make more soon.

 Iron man is modeled after the classic comic book version.

 Cap and Iron man are supposed to look life sized here. I like to experiment with photography of our creations and make realistic perspectives.

 The shield is actually a lego piece that I painted and put straps on.
